Gustav Holst is a figure of monumental importance in wind band circles. His First Suite in E-flat is considered to be one of the pieces that defined the modern wind band as a serious concert medium. Our performance will help celebrate the centennial of its composition in 1909. Below are several eloquent descriptions of the piece and its importance. This is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music, period.
